Yesterday we went fishing for ‘oama (young weke)…..…it takes skill to catch them! The guy next to me was constantly bringing them up, while I, on the other hand caught zero. I gave up and went for a paddle instead.
After returning home and checking our phone messages, I hear my dad saying there is a huge school of halalu (young akule) in the harbor. Well…….

Today was a different story. It was so much fun! Throw your pole in, watch your floater go down, pull up a fish….not much skill required. We caught enough to share with some friends and have a delicious dinner. “Krispy Kritters” (salt & pepper, fry until skin is crispy), hot rice w/furikake, kim chee and tomatos with our secret family dressing (mayonaise mixed w/shoyu). Ono!
