Yesterday we competed in the 10 mile downwind standup paddle race from Maliko gulch to Kahului harbor. Kent got 3rd in his division while I got 1st in mine 🙂
The finish was the most grueling part, especially when sprinting to the finish line with someone breathing down your neck!
The Maliko run is normally lots of fun….with the wind at your back, riding swells all the way down the coast line. The scenery is spectacular and if you’re looking, lots of ocean life (I prefer not to see what’s down there).
As usual, we only train for about a month before the race but next year we vow to train harder!!
This race is an awesome event and downwind paddling is the perfect way to keep in shape when there is no surf.
